Days of the Leak
Spin Magazine hat einen interessanten Artikel, wie und warum ein Musik Album meist vor dem offiziellen Release in online Tauschbörsen auftaucht. Die häufigsten Stellen, an denen ein Album der Kontrolle entwischt, sind in der untenstehenden Graphik aufgeführt. Was der Artikel auch hervorhebt ist, dass in zunehmendem Masse, der leak Teil der Marketing Kampagne wird. Die freie Verfügbarkeit der Musik muss also nicht unbedingt den Interessen der Künstler (und der Labels) widersprechen. Denn, wie ein Manager eines Indie Labels (Merge Records) feststellt: "It's only gonna hurt you if your record sucks. The way we look at this, and I think the majority of our bands agree, is: It's getting the record out there and getting people talking about the album. We don't have to add to that discussion, we don't have to advertise that it's available, but if you put out a good record, people are still going to buy it."
